Punjab Government Announces PKR 1 Billion Rehmatul Lil Alameen Scholarship for Intermediate & Undergraduate Students
Introduction The Punjab Government has launched the Rehmatul Lil Alameen Scholarship 2021 with a funding of PKR 1 billion to support deserving intermediate and undergraduate students. The scholarship aims to provide financial assistance to students based on merit and need-based criteria. Last year, 10,851 students benefited from the program, and this year, the government has expanded the program to 29,142 scholarships.
Scholarship Distribution While most of the scholarships are designated for intermediate students, undergraduate students are also eligible. To accommodate the overwhelming response, the Higher Education Department (HED) Punjab has announced an extension in the application deadline.
Scholarship Benefits For intermediate students, each selected candidate will receive PKR 25,000. The Chief Minister of Punjab emphasized that in addition to financial support, a Rehmatul Lil Alameen (PBUH) Chair will be established in divisional universities to promote research on the life of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) in international universities.
Eligibility Criteria
1. Scholarship Based on SSC Results
- Applicants must have secured at least 60% marks in SSC exams from a public sector school.
- Must have secured admission in a public sector college within two years of passing SSC.
- Applicants must not be receiving any other scholarship.
- Scholarships will be awarded based on a 60:40 ratio between Science and Humanities groups, ensuring fair gender distribution.
2. Need-Based Scholarship Criteria
- Parents’ monthly income must be less than or equal to PKR 25,000.
- Parents must not own more than 5 acres of agricultural land or 5 Marla urban property.
- 50% of need-based scholarships are reserved for students from low-income families, with 10% specifically allocated for children of government employees (Grade 1–4).
3. Merit-Based Scholarship Criteria
- The highest-scoring students from each district will be selected by HED Punjab based on Intermediate and Secondary Education Board results.
- Scores will be verified by HED Punjab from the education board’s official data.
- If a student secures admission in a public sector institute outside their home district, their merit will be determined based on their domicile district.
- Selection will be based on district of residence, not the district where the student is admitted.
